A Postcard?

I purchased this image online thinking it was a postcard but no, the reverse side was truly just gray cardboard.

But I am still pleased with my purchase.

Trumbull – Dear Reder – The End of an Era (3) – July 21, 2021

Fascinating family story. It has similarities to my own.

"Greatest Generation" Life Lessons

The Trumbull House has been sold.  From what I understand, the new owner plans to create nine one room Studio Apartments in the main house, two more apartments in the barn and to add on to the Little House to form a home for his family.

I will be devoting at least the next few weekends – maybe many more – to a Memorial of the house that has been an anchor for my family for almost 100 years and to the people who made it a HOME.

I find it especially hard to decide what to post because I have been writing about this house and the people who lived there, daily, for almost 9 years. Do I want to focus on the individuals – special events – everyday events – pictures – I just cannot decide which direction to choose. This weekend I am going to focus on…

An Old Photo

I found an old photo today. A photo of my grandparents house in Minneapolis Minnesota (on Hennepin), when their family was young and there were diapers on the clothes line. I recognize my grandfather’s handwriting on the reverse side of the photo. When they were newly married my grandparents lived there in Minneapolis, on Hennepin Avenue. The house looks large, to accommodate the young couple, Auntie my grandfather’s sister, and their growing family – twin daughters and 2 additional daughters.

I like my grandfather’s note – “Please excuse the diapers hanging on the clothesline.”

Note: the family moved to Omaha Nebraska a year or 2 later

Bad Sight

I didn’t like what I saw today. I was a pedestrian walking along a suburban road. It was a complicated 5 way intersection that I was trying to negotiate. Along came a happy driver – no problems for her – she had her little dog in her lap – I suspected the dog was driving. That would have freed the woman to talk and text as well!

Where Were The Birds Today?

I was early out in the garden today ready to be greeted by the birds and the cat. Where were they? Definitely missing. I waited for a while, did some weeding, a bird or two came for a drink in the water I put out but apart from that – zilch. And I was all ready just to sit and meditate and enjoy the unfolding of the day. It’s actually my neighbor who puts out food for the birds but I guess they ate it all yesterday. I must set up a feeding station in my yard!

Listening to the Birds

Working in my garden this morning, I spent a fair bit of time just standing still, watching and listening to the small birds coming and going in trees. I even saw a hummingbird taking a drink from a small dish, meant for the birds.

The clump of daisies is about the only reminder of the garden as it used to be
Northern Flicker but the one I saw yesterday was not blue – is there such a bird as the Southern Flicker?
