What’s Going On?

Why have I not been posting to my blog recently, or perhaps you haven’t noticed. Well the answer is nothing. The summer days have just been slipping by and I haven’t felt the urge to write anything. Perhaps I need a new/old postcard to jog my writing finger. Yes, I type with one finger. Sorry Mr. Orton, my high school typing teacher. While I haven’t acquired any new/old postcards recently, I do have a relevant book I can tell you about. It’s titled The Early Postcards of the British East Africa Protectorate/Kenya, by P.C. Evans. A treasure trove indeed. Black & white reproductions and detailed information re selected early postcards. For example:

“Category Miscellaneous 5. Publisher:Unknown British Origin. A single colored card from a series of cards portraying Postmen of the British Empire. A total of 14 cards were produced about 1904 and the following example shows the Mombabsa to Uganda nail carrier and his guards, the others carry food and clothing for the journey. It is not thought that these cards were made available in East Africa and appear to have been distributed free with packets of Coleman’s starch.”

I had a similar book about the early postcards of Hong Kong, but I’m afraid I didn’t rescue this volume when we cleared the house.
