Birthday Greetings – a postcard from 1911 posted from a small town on the Spokane River in Western Washington state

A postcard depicting “The Library pf Fine Bindings” at the Maryhill Museum of Fine Arts in the Columbia River Basin.

Two postcards from the Olympic Peninsula. The oyster industry there is centered at Nahcotta on Willapa Bay.

The date stamp on the 2nd card is 197_. The Emily Dickinson commemorative stamp was issued in 1971.

No, I don’t see this as a wasteland. I like the image. Soft coloring – simple, plain maybe but not stark. It’s a postcard depicting Richland Washington, no date. But it’s actually part of the Hanford site where plutonium was produced for use in the atomic bomb. So in a way it has sinister overtones given the terrible destruction caused by atomic weapons. We live in the nuclear age, alas.
