The Last Spike – painting by Thomas Hill

Old Custom House Where Nathaniel Hawthorne Worked, Salem Massachusetts
Postmarked Lynn Mass 1922
I found this photo recently in my mother’s archive, My grandfather is with his 3 daughters in 1923, At that time the family was living in Omaha Nebraska. My mother is the 11 year o;d on the right.
I have titled this to indicate my grandfather was young but that’s a relative term. Actually he was almost 50 in 1923, But my image of him has always been of him as an older man in his 70’s and early 80’s – when I knew him,

a bit blurred but this is a photo of my grandfather in 1912 when he was in his mid-30’s.

Oh if only this card could speak – instead I’ll have to think up the story it might tell.
Postcard – Place et Statue de Stanislas L’Hotel de Ville et La Cathedrale
Once upon a time, long ago, I had a scholarship to study in Nancy in the North of France. For a variety of reasons I decided not to avail myself of this honor. A path not taken.
The first Sunday of each month a meeting of the Pacific Northwest Postcard Collectors Club is held. In anticipation of the March meeting I am going to post some of my cards. I’m never quite sure what I am going to look for, nor what I am going to find, at each meeting. That’s part of the fun.Last month I got sort of carried away by Sheep. The seller has promised to bring more “sheep” cards this month. I am also going to be on the lookout for dogs and cats. And cards from places where I have lived and traveled.

This card from Norway was written over 100 years ago. A lifetime. I learned to ski about 70 years ago on the local golf course in Belmont Massachusetts.
