Outing to the Bookstore
At least 12 people had signed up for the Bookstore trip but only 5 people showed up. We went anyhow. What fun! The bookstore was only a few miles away. Upon arrival we were given an hour to browse and make our purchases. Not nearly enough time for me – the bookstore was BIG and jam packed with worthy choices. I was finding so many GOOD books, my arms were full. So full that a member of staff offered to save the growing stack. So she put my stack of books behind the checkout area so that I could continue my browsing more comfortably – i.e. select even more books..
Come time to check out, I waited patiently in line while another customer (from our seniors bus) paid for her items. I waited, and waited, and waited. At last the “senior” lady ahead of me got all her bits and bobs back in place and she tottered off. I stepped up and paid for the items I was holding. An unseen voice inquired about the books behind the cashier – oh no she said over her shoulder that those books were for someone else. Numb (dumb?) I looked on. Paid my bill and happily exited the store.
Hours later, back home, it dawned on me that those books on the shelf behind the register were actually my earlier choices. Change of cashiers and slowness of waiting in line – I GOOFED! Guess I’ll have to plan another outing to the bookstore!
